After college graduation, as she transitioned from student-life to adulthood, Moriah began to realize that she was paying “a lot for insurance” through her workplace medical plan, something she talked about with her two best friends, both Samaritan members. When they told her about how Samaritan members care for each other when medical needs arise, she knew it was for her. Moriah left insurance and became a Samaritan member in 2017.
She says, “I love that I actually am giving money directly to people to meet their immediate health care needs; that is just so beautiful. And not only do I get to give them money, but I also get to send them a message saying that I’m praying for them.” Ultimately, for her, it’s about meeting the needs of others, which she believes is an avenue of hospitality and how the Lord has gifted her.
“I knew as soon as I heard about the mission of Samaritan that I wanted to be a part of it.”
One of her favorite Bible verses is Philippians 4:4 “Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice.” and partly inspired the name of the coffee shop she opened in 2020 – Joy Coffee. She smiles when she talks about watching connections being made and discipleship happening over a cup of coffee.
Moriah says that Samaritan Ministries is affordable, something that’s important to her as a small business owner, and she has peace knowing that when she has a medical need, fellow members will care for her in the same way she cares for them.
